In order to have an active, robust and healthy workforce, the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lagos State in partnership with SEBECCLY Cancer Care, held a one day Cervical Cancer Screening and Prevention alongside Body Mass Index (BMI) and Blood Pressure (BP) tests for staff of the Agency at the State Headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos.
In her opening remark, the Clinical Consultant of SEEBECCLY Cancer Care, Dr.(Mrs.) Omolola Salako, said that her organization is happy to partner with NOA because of the reach to the grassroot. “Partnering with NOA is a platform to reach a larger women audience”, she said.
Dr. Salako congratulated the staff for being part of the 1000 people SEBECCLY screenes yearly for the programme.
On the likely causes and mode of screening Cervical Cancer, the Consultant Gyneacology Obstetrician, Dr. Kehinde Okunade observed that Cervical Cancer was the second common cause of women’s death and likely to affect virtually all adult women from the age of 18 years. He noted that most women do not always know they have Cervical Cancer unless they go for test because the disease has been found to have an incubation period of between 10 – 15 years. He therefore adviced women to always go for regular cervical tests.
Responding, the Director, National Orientation Agency, NOA, Lagos State, Mr. Waheed Ishola thanked the SEBECCLY for partnering with NOA; noting that it is a thing of joy to have a healthy workforce and enjoined the staff to avail themselves of the opportunity and fully participate in the screening exercise.
