For the past decade, Northeast Nigeria has been stirred by violent conflicts and the presence of Non-State Armed Groups (NSAGs). Beyond disrupting local communities and fostering an atmosphere of fear, these NSAGs have led to the internal displacement of civilians within Nigeria and its neighbors.

The Nigerian Government having recognized the limits of a purely military solution to the conflict enacted the Policy Framework and National Action Plan for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism in 2017 and revised the National Security Strategy in 2019.NOA in line with its mandate has been saddled with the responsibility of sensitizing and mobilizing communities in preparation for returnees to their various communities and this requires continuous interface with relevant stakeholders.

It is against this backdrop that the NOA in collaboration with IOM Nigeria organized a one day capacity building workshop aimed at sharing, discussing and educating NOA staff on communication strategies related to the DDRR and PCVE processes in Nigeria.
