The first Citizens Security Enlightenment conference organized by Macedonia Ambassador Chaplain Corps, Lagos State Command was held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos on Thursday 18th May, 2017.
Speaking on the topic, “The Strategic role of every Nigerian in the Federal Government’s ‘Change Agenda’ as it pertains to Security and Crime Management in Lagos State”. The Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lagos State, Mr. Waheed Ishola thanked the Macedonia Corps for their foresight in organising the conference but cautioned that starting the event late was bad.
Delving into the thrust of his paper, Mr. Ishola noted with sadness that our long cherished virtues of honesty, hard work, integrity, discipline, patriotism, good neighbourliness to mention just few, have been thrown overboard, hence the negative attitudes with all kinds of manifestation of lawlessness and crime.
He cautioned that the Change Agenda of the present government means that we need to make a change or a difference in our personal behaviour; in the way we conduct ourselves in both public and private life; shun negative attitudes that could derail the developmental process of our country. Accordingly, the values which defines the present administration are enshrined in chapter 2 section 23 of 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended. These are: Discipline; Integrity; Dignity of Labour; Social Justice; Religious Tolerance; Self-Reliance and Patriotism.
On crime control strategies, Mr. Ishola urged citizens to imbibe the following amongst others:
- Intelligence sharing, gathering and networking.
- Proper upbringing of children and wards.
- Imbibing the spirit of patriotism.
- Embrace the philosophy of Peaceful co-existence and
- Citizens Arrest Approach not jungle justice.
In his welcome speech, the Commanding Officer, Lagos Command, Macedonia Ambassadors Chaplain Corps, Chap. Brig. Anthony Abraham noted that the platform was a medium to bring to the table all that matters about security and crime management in the country.
