The National Population Commission (NPC) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA) collaborated to host a one-day interactive session with bloggers towards ensuring a credible and successful 2023 housing and population census. This partnership is crucial to the success of the census, and the NPC has invested considerable time and resources in planning for it.
During the session, Mrs. Theresa Madueke, the Director of Public Enlightenment and Mass Mobilization, representing the Director General of NOA, Garba Abari, highlighted the importance of the partnership between NOA and NPC for the 2023 Nigerian Census. She emphasized that the census is digital in nature and will focus on housing and population, which differs significantly from previous ones conducted. The speakers assured the public that all necessary preparations have been made to ensure the accuracy and credibility of the census. The census is designed to be all-inclusive, and everyone is encouraged to participate actively in making the 2023 census a success.
The Chairman of the NPC, Hon. Nasir Isa Kwara, represented by Alhaji Husanini Ishiaku, Special Assistant to the Chairman, NPC, welcomed participants to a one-day interactive workshop for bloggers and social media influencers in preparation for the 2023 Population and Housing Census. He emphasized the need for effective engagement with the media to generate data for national planning, especially for the under-30 demographic who are active internet and social media users.
The conference’s objective is to heighten awareness, sensitize, raise a network of bloggers and online activists, and achieve positive portrayal of the census on various platforms. Resource persons at the program include Tolu Ogulesi, Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on New Media, Dr. Isiaka Yahaya, the Director of Public Affairs at NPC, Dr. Inuwa Jalingo, the Census Manager, Mrs. Geraldine Ngozi, Director Cartography, and Clinton Essient, a social media strategist.
