The National Orientation Agency (NOA) organized a citizens engagement programme tagged: North-Central Zonal Launch of Communicating Government Policies, Programmes and Activities to ensure Nigerians are abreast of the several intervention policies to deliver devidends of democracy.

Kwara played host to the event that is being replicated across six geo-political zones of the country. The event focused on three critical sectors of Health, Environmental and Communication.

The NOA, having realized that a gap exists between policies of government and Nigerians for whom such policies are targeted, conceived this citizens engagement initiative to improve on citizens participation in policies and programmes of government.

Director-General of NOA, Dr. Garba Abari was represented by the Niger State Director, Yahaya I. Gbongbo. He called on the citizens to appraise government policies and programmes through popular feedback mechanism that will enhance policy modification.

“It is our duty in NOA to ensure that Nigerians participate in policy formulation which is why the Agency is providing this platform for critical stakeholders. We must make sure citizens are aware of policies, programmes and activities of government at all times,” Gbongbo.

In his welcome address, the Kwara State Director, Olusegun Adeyemi thanked invited guests and stakeholders while urging them to be participatory in the discourse.

“Of recent, Federal Government has initiated policies in these three sectors of Health, Environment and Communication to better serve the citizens. Notably, healthcare has received unprecedented attention in the wake of Lassa Fever, novel Coronavirus and other health issues.” Adeyemi.

The event witnessed presentation from experts from the three major sectors that formed the theme for the programme. This effort will be replicated in all LGAs of States in the North-Central Zone.
