The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu representing the Minister of Information and National Orientation at the Nigeria Public Relations Week 2024 (NPRW) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, gave the opening remarks on underscoring the importance of Public Relations in building reputation for economic and social development.

While appreciating the state government for their efforts to turn things around in the state, he highlighted the significance of the event’s theme, “Public Relations as a Critical Asset for Nigeria’s Economic and Reputation Renaissance,” especially in navigating the complex landscape of global connectivity, technological transformation, economic reinvigoration, and national development.

According to him, it was the understanding of the centrality of public relations in shaping the ministry’s vision as encapsulated in the five-point agenda which include:

            1.         Restore trust in public communications.

            2.         Amplify government policies and programs and inspire Nigerian narratives.

            3.         Reorient national values.

4.         Modernize technology and talent in the Federal Government’s information and communications systems.

            5.         Create an enabling environment for the media in Nigeria.

He emphasized that in a world where information travels at the speed of light, the ability to effectively communicate, engage, and influence has never been more critical and demanding.

Additionally, he urged participants to use this week-long celebration of public relations excellence and its role in economic transformation to reaffirm their commitment to harnessing the power of communication for the greater good.

He encouraged them to seize the opportunity to exchange ideas, share best practices, and inspire one another to reach new heights of innovation and impact.
