Mr Richard Abimiku Audu, made this commitment during a Media Orientation on Measles Second Dose Awareness Campaign organised by the Benue State Primary Health Care Board, yesterday 13th August, 2020. The programme which is in respect of the ongoing 2nd dose of measles vaccine is to create more awareness to enable parents and caregivers bring forth children within the ages of 15- 23 months to be vaccinated. Present at the event were the Leadership Newspaper, Voice Newspaper, Radio Benue as well as The Nations Newspaper, Benue TV , the NTA , Joy FM etc.The Executive Secretary Dr Bem Agida informed the media that the measles vaccination is ongoing in the state and there is need to intensify awareness campaign, noting that the media and NOA are better placed to reach out to the people to ensure its success.The essence of the forum as stated by the State Health Educator Mr Beeka Emmanuel, was to educate the media about the 2nd dose campaign which is a new innovation, as health care givers are more used to the single dose which starts at the 9th month to the 15th month. The second dose is however to cover children between 15 months up to 23 months, that is about two years from birth. He added that this idea by UNICEF and WHO is mandatory and aimed at meeting the targeted population and capture the children that missed the first dose.The State Director Disease Control and Immunization, Dr korave spoke on the role of the Media in enhancing awareness creation and further appealed to the Media to help publicize the second dose measles vacine which has just been introduced and has met a lot of resistance from parents and the public. The vaccine according to him is safe. Korave futher sougt the cooperation of the NOA and the entire media to extend awareness to other diseases like poliomyelitis, Hepatitis B, yellow fever, CSM etc to make the state safer.While delivering a goodwill message, the NOA State Director Mr Richard Abimiku Audu appreciated the timing of the 2nd dose, considering the already bad situation created by COVID-19. He charged parents and caregivers to take advantage of the 2nd dose of Measles and prevent children from contracting the disease. The Director assured the people that NOA is set to let the Benue populace aware of the already commenced 2nd dose Measles immunisation, bring back responses from the people and address cases of resistance in communities.NOA BENUE STATE DIRECTORATE
