The Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu has on Wednesday established a nexus between national security and integrated marketing communication while highlighting the effort of NOA to build capacities and ensure an orderly Nigerian society.

Mallam Issa-Onilu reiterated this when he delivered a thought-provoking and  groundbreaking second annual faculty public lecture at Al-hikmah University, Ilorin, titled “Enhancing National Security through Integrated Marketing Communication.” 

The event, held on the university campus, was a meeting of the town and gown and drew a diverse audience of students, faculty, traditional and religious leaders, security professionals, and communication experts.

In his insightful lecture, the NOA DG highlighted that the strategic use of communication tools and channels, new media inclusive can foster greater public awareness, cooperation, and vigilance, which are essential in addressing contemporary security challenges.

Mallam Onilu  underscored several key points during his presentation which include:

-The role of Communication in Security system

-Multifaceted Approach which combines traditional media, digital platforms, public relations, and grassroots mobilization to create a cohesive and far-reaching security communication network.

-Community Engagement and involvement  Emphasizing the importance of community involvement,  empowered to act as the first line of defense through awareness campaigns and local partnerships.

-Countering Misinformation which can undermine national security.

-Collaborative Efforts between government agencies, the private sector, academia, and civil society organizations to develop and implement effective communication strategies that support national security objectives.

The Vice-Chancellor of Alhikmah University, Professor Noah Yusuf, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor expressed gratitude to Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu for his enlightening presentation and emphasized the university’s dedication to promoting dialogues that address critical national issues. 

The Founder, Al-Hikmah University, Alh. Dr AbdulRaheem Oladimeji OFR also noted that the insights shared by the NOA DG would significantly contribute to ongoing efforts to enhance security measures within the country.

Other highlights of the event were the presentation of Faculty Student’s Magazine, presentation of awards to distinguished personalities.

Before the lecture, the DG was guided through a facility tour of the campuses of the University, reputed to be the first private Islamic faith based institution of Higher learning. The Atere campus features state of the art facilities including a theatre, E-library, medical facilities, laboratories, lecture rooms, hostels and the centre for peace and security studies.

At the Adeta campus are the lecture and main auditorium.
