*..urges Media Practitioners to use their power of Agenda Setting on Social Vices* Media practitioners have been urged to use their power and offices in agenda setting against rape, gender violence and other social vices for the good of all in the society.The appeal was made on Wednesday by Olusegun Adeyemi, the Kwara State Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA) and Her Excellency, Dr Mrs Olufolake AbdulRasaq represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Social Development Hon Bosede Deborah Aremu and other stakeholders while speaking at some media houses in Ilorin during a media campaign as part of measures to sustain awareness on the need for Journalists to keep engaging the public on elimination of vices.Adeyemi said ‘the media remains the watchdog of the society and should keep setting agenda and educating the public on how to handle the menace appropriately”.The Kwara State first Lady and founder Ajike People’s Support Centre, Dr Mrs Olufolake AbdulRasaq represented by Kwara Commissioner for Social Development stated that on a daily basis the record of rape cases and gender based abuse in Kwara have become alarming and the media has a huge role to play in educating the masses on how to eliminated the vice.In his comments, Prince Adesemowo Adegogo the Kwara State Chairman of Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) commended NOA and office of the Kwara State First Lady for their efforts on rape and gender-based violence which are also major concern of his association.The FIBAN Chairman therefore called on members of the association nationwide to step up their creativity and proactiveness in sustaining the awareness on elimination of vices in our society via their various platforms.
