Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) Dr. Garba Abari has urged the re-elected President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), Mustahpa Isah and the newly elected executives to make national interest, namely unity, peace and progress their priority as they discharge their responsibilities as gate keepers in their respective media organizations.

Abari made this call while congratulating the new NGE executives on their election. He stressed that as agenda setters and the 4th estate of the realm, the media should rise up to its responsibility to help build the society and nation we desire as Nigerians at this critical and challenging time in our nationhood.

“As gate keepers, Nigerians expect you to uphold the highest standards and ethics of the profession while instilling same in the younger members of the profession. Society also expects from you the promotion of values that harp on our national unity and peaceful co-existence rather than narratives that tend to divide us along religious, ethnic, regional and political affiliations”, Abari said.

The NOA Director General expressed optimism that under its new leadership, the Nigerian Guild of Editors, as a non-governmental, non-partisan and non-profit making organization for the highest strata of working journalists, will help uplift the quality of journalism in Nigeria.
