Moved by the poor living conditions of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Nigeria, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the Ghana High Commission in Nigeria have collaborated to donate relief materials to IDPs at the Kuchingoro IDPs camp in Abuja.

Speaking during the visit to the camp, the Acting Director General of NOA, Mrs. Ngozi Ekeoba assured the IDPs that Nigerians are concerned about their hardship and that both the government and the military are working hard to end insurgency and enable them return to their homes.

Ekeoba offered assistance in paying some medical bills for the IDPs, urged them to remain optimistic of a better future and called on Nigerians to show more support towards alleviating the plights of IDPs in the spirit of our collective brotherhood.

The Minister and Head of Chancery, Ghana High Commission, Abuja, Genevieve Apallo said the gesture was the Ghanaian people’s way of showing solidarity with Nigerians, considering that Ghana and Nigeria had a lot in common. She stressed the brotherhood of all Africans wherever they are noting that whatever affects one affects all African countries.

Presenting the relief materials, mostly food items, on behalf of Ghana and NOA, NOA Peace Ambassador, Miss Splendour Joe King urged the IDPs to exercise patience with the government and keep praying for the military as they work assiduously towards ending insurgency and returning them to their homes.

Vice Chairman of the Kuchingoro IDPs Camp, Alhaji Usman Adamu, on behalf of the camp expressed gratitude for the gesture which he said would greatly assist to cushion the effects of their plights.
