Today, DG National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr. Garba Abari, represented by the Director, PRS, Mr. Samuel Soughul engaged pupils of the Govt Secondary School, Gwagwa in the FCT on ‘Value Re-orientation and Use of National Symbols’.

The need to inject new set of values in our schools children as well as knowing the use of #NationalSymbols in such away that they accord them with respect they deserve. These values are enshrined in the constitution such as Integrity, Patriotism, Dignity of Labour etc.

According to him, NOA has a duty to ensure that students know what our national sympols stand for and their uses. These symbols include, National Flag, Coat of Arm, National Pledge, National ID, Nigerian Passport and so on.

He said further that display of Nigerian Flag is very important and it can suggests mood of the nation depending on how it is hoisted. Half mast suggests country is mourning passing away of an important statesman or leader.

He used the event to inform the students that NOA has adopted the 2nd Stanza of the National Anthem as opening prayers at official occasions. This replaces hitherto religious prayers that tend to divide us on the basis of religion.

“The wavy band represents confluence of both rivers Niger and Benue in Lokoja. These rivers represent metaphor of our unity as one great nation. We must always work for unity and peace for Nigeria’s progress.” Samuel Soughul

Vice Principal (Academics) of GSS Gwagwa FCT, James Abun thanked the NOA for choosing the school for the Value Re-orientation and Use of National Symbols. He said students are better enriched with core values and what our #NationalSymbols stand for.
