As part of efforts to mark the World Cancer Day 2020, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) is to collaborate with Tai Aremu Cancer Awareness Campaign Organization (TACACO) to create awareness, sensitize and educate Nigerians about the disease.

The Director-General of NOA, Dr. Garba Abari made this known when he received a team from TACACO led by its Executive Director, Mr. Olusegun Kuti Aremu. Abari said the NOA is concerned about the low level of cancer awareness in the Nigerian society, describing the collaboration as timely, not just to commemorate this year’s World Cancer Day but also to create awareness on how cancer can be detected early and managed properly.

Abari said over the years, many people have died due to lack of awareness, adding that the effort by TACACO towards creating this awareness campaign is quite commendable. In his words, “NOA, as citizen’s engagement agency, is ready to create awareness about cancer. With the alarming statics coming out, we need information and awareness to go out to the citizens”.

Earlier, the Executive Director, TACACO Olusegun Aremu said the organization was in NOA to seek support in creating cancer awareness and educating Nigerians in order to salvage more lives in the country.

Kuti said that the awareness campaign is necessary and borne out of his past and sad experience to educate Nigerians on how to manage the cancer disease.

He said the World Health Organization has estimated that cancer is the 2nd largest illness that claims so many lives and the best eradication is education and information to curb the aliment.

TACACO was named after Mrs. Taiwo Olufunke Aremu who died of cancer during pregnancy.
