The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has charged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to be the vanguard of the new War Against Indiscipline being proposed by the Federal Government. The Agency further charged the corps members to align to the Change mantra of President Muhammadu Buhari, noting that the future and destiny of Nigeria can only be properly defined and secured with the commitment of the young generation of Nigerians.

The Acting Director General of NOA, Mrs. Ngozi Ekeoba gave the charge during a mentoring session for corps members undergoing orientation in the Federal Capital Territory, urging them to imbibe and propagate the nation’s core values as a first step toward contributing meaningfully to national development.

Ekeoba who was represented by the Director, Orientation and Behaviour Modification, Mr. Musa Chantu said the National Ethics are deliberately enshrined in Chapter Two, Section 23 of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria to rally Nigerians around common values and deemphasize their differences. She said by embracing those values of Discipline, Integrity, Dignity of Labour, Social Justice, Religious Tolerance, Self-reliance and Patriotism, Nigerian youths can work together toward the common goal of national development.

The Acting NOA Director General urged the youth to always see themselves first as Nigerians and to always introduce themselves as such as against the prevalent ethnic consciousness among many Nigerians.

Lending his voice, Mr. Magose Eju, Founder, Generation for Societal Change, partners with NOA on Values Education pointed to poor attitude as responsible for the poor development of the country which he said the developed nations are taking advantage of. He urged the corps members to harness their various trainings in the higher institutions for the development of the nation, noting however that only positive attitude can guarantee the desired development.
