The Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu was in Minna, Niger state as part of his advocacy tour of states on the proposed National Value Charter (NVC) which will soon be unveiled by President Bola Tinubu.


As part of activities of the DG in the state was a visit to the Paramount Ruler of Minna, His Royal Highness Alhaji Umar Farouk Bahago who congratulated the Dg on his appointment and pledged to extend the same cooperation and support to the Agency as he has done over the last 25 years of his reign. For him, tolerance and accommodation is very important in a diverse state like Niger. He said that he takes advantage of every opportunity to preach and advocate for peace and unity in his kingdom.


The DG used the opportunity to intimate the Emir and members of the Emirate Council of the plans to put in place a national Value Charter that will aggregate the values of all sub national entities which will become the binding values of the nation. The Charter, like a social contract stipulates the obligations of the country to the citizens and the corresponding duty of citizens to the country.


The DG intimated the Emir of the proposed summit for traditional rulers which will set out their role in preserving the values of communities and shaping the younger ones who constitute about 70% of the country’s population.
