Convinced that the rising cases of rape, violence against women and anti social vices require a multifaceted approach involving various stakeholders, the Kwara State Directorate of National Orientation Agency (NOA) is set to strengthen its synergy with the Women Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria Kwara Chapter. (WOWICAN).This was made known on Thursday when Lady Evangelist Maria Olubukoye, the WOWICAN Kwara Chairperson led other Executive members on a working visit to the State Headquarters office of NOA in Ilorin.The NOA State Director, Mr. Olusegun Adeyemi who described the increasing cases of rape and sexual violence against women as sad and disheartening, further emphasized that all Nigerians are stakeholders in bringing an end to the evil and parents must be alive to their responsibility.According to him, “parents, guardians, educational institutions, religious institutions, political leaders and organisations must pay more than lip service to preventing rape, sexual violence and other vices as well as meting out the appropriate sanctions to whoever is found guilty without fear or favour”While speaking on strategies of preventing further spread of Covid-19, Adeyemi noted that “ covid-19 pandemic is far from being over, hence, personal responsibility must be the watchword of every Nigerian in order to ensure that the virus is contained, normalcy is restored to our society and children can return to school”.Lady Evangelist Maria Olubukoye , the WOWICAN Chairperson also bemoaned the spate of rape cases and urged parents to shun acts of parental negligence such as child abuse, domestic violence, street hawking and endeavor to protect their children from elderly ones who may take advantage of the girl child during holidays.In her words, “WOWICAN has been at the forefront of the campaign against sexual violence, especially the protection of the girl child and we shall continue to engage stakeholders.
